Selling vintage clothing sounds great: unique pieces, a sustainable message, history, and it's incredibly popular. But once you've decided you want to start a vintage webshop or store, the question soon comes up: where do you actually start?
At Original Vintage Wholesale, we speak to entrepreneurs who are just starting or want to start. Some with a physical store, others with a Vinted Shop. Everyone starts somewhere, and honestly, we know how overwhelming it can feel. That's why we share below the steps we most often recommend.
1. Figure out what style you want to sell
Vintage has multiple styles, and that often makes it tricky. Do you want to focus on '90s sportswear, leather jackets from the '70s, or maybe a mix of everything? Start with what appeals to you. It doesn't have to be all at once. Having a clear and unique style will help your (web) shop grow.
2. Where are you going to sell it?
Do you want to sell a physical store, a web shop, or through Vinted? Our advice is to start small. Many successful vintage entrepreneurs have started via Vinted and only then grown further. This gives you room to get to know your customers.
3. Start with small purchases and choose carefully
With us, you can handpick your clothes yourself with no minimum purchases. This makes it easier to start without a big risk. We understand that it can be difficult to buy a large quantity at once.
4. Pay attention to how you sell the products
A good photo says more than a thousand words. Make sure the clothes are clearly visible, use nice light, and a calm background. It doesn't have to be perfect yet, as long as it is clear, attractive photos will help sell your products faster.
5. Start selling, but keep learning
Put your products online and see how they do. Which items are selling well? Which ones come along less often? Learning from your customers and adjusting your offerings is important when starting out.
Finally, remember: you don't have to do it alone!
